Career Planning
There are five steps that should be taken to land the career you want. Have you:
  1. Assessed your skills, talent and abilities? Do you know what you enjoy doing?
  2. Will your career choice utilize those talent, skills and abilities while earning you an income you can live with?
  3. Do you know how to research industries and companies that are good fits for you?
  4. Have you made a plan?
  5. Are you ready to implement your plan?

Assess your Skills, Talents, Abilities, and Experience
What would you do if money was no options? Do you love children, planning events, finding better ways of doing mundane things? It is a fact that people who do what they love are the most successful people in the world. However, you have to have the second part of the puzzle to make money. Do you have the ability to be good at what you love? I love to sing but no one is going to pay me for it. Experience and training will only get you so far, it takes some self discovery and honesty to move past this part of career planning. The work must be done by you but we can help, we offer assessments and coaching that will allow you to experience the self discovery you need to move past this stage. Choose a Career
Once you do some self exploration it is time to choose a career field in which you can be employed. We can help you find some career choices within your selected career field. Working with a career coach or other career development specialist is one way to choose a career that is right for you. Granted that it will take a sizable investment to pursue a career, especially if this means going back to school, but understand that people change careers as their values and family needs change. In other words, don’t get stuck in indecisiveness and realize that this may not be a life time decision.
Advancing Your Career

Explore Occupations
Exploring occupations can be time consuming but it is worth the time invested. Internships, temporary employment and volunteering are all great ways to experience a field without committing. In addition, you can schedule information gathering meetings and get your foot in the door with companies within your prospective field. There are also many sites that can assist you gather information on industries and jobs.

Apprenticeships

Make a Plan
Once you've chosen an occupation, you will have to evaluate what is needed to land a job in that field. This may include going back to school, taking additional classes, certifications or finding a company willing to train you. Make sure you set goals for the short term and keep in mind where you would like to end up in 5 -10 years.

Taking the Leap
Once you have done all this hard work you must be ready to execute the plan. Examine the obstacles and find ways around them. What family, friends or co-workers will you need to assist you? Do you have the funds available to implement your plan? If not, where will you find it?
